King of the Castles

Imagine this: you are seated in a 16th century castle courtyard, the sun is setting and the strings of the orchestra are tuning up for the start of the performance. Welcome to the Saint-Céré Festival.
As part of the Dordogne Valley summer festivals season, this month long celebration of the arts is much more than just another music festival. It is synonymous with spectacular concerts of classical music and opera staged in settings of equally spectacular grandeur and beauty.

A feast for the eyes and ears

Centuries old Renaissance castles, abbeys and churches around Saint-Céré and the wider Dordogne Valley all play host, including the spectacular 14th century fortress of Castelnau-Bretenoux. These exceptional settings combined with high-production shows give the performances an added sense of the extraordinary with a real musical and visual treat.

The programme is vast and varied, from troupes performing opera to orchestras playing symphonies or intimatequintet performances. Special events in the wider associated programming also include cabaret and musical theatre.
