This round walk takes you to see the former spa buildings at the Salmière spring, and the detour to the Fort de Cantal is a must, with a "fortified" cazelle (dry stone hut) which is completely out of the ordinary. Here, the compact limestone of the Gramat Causse ends abruptly in little cliffs which skirt around the commune of Alvignac. Perched on a hill made of older, impermeable rocks (the Limargue), the village is surrounded by streams which disappear suddenly beneath the causse down numerous swallow-holes, of which one of the most impressive is the Réveillon chasm. Following a fault line, a spring enables water to resurface from deep underground, after a long sojourn deep below the earth.
