Le Chemin des Ecoliers

The path provides pleasing contrasts between wild, stony countryside and the lush, cultivated Dordogne valley with its major heritage sites. The steep cliffs overhanging the clear waters of the Dordogne and the stark beauty of the Causse have always been special places where Man has found refuge and protection. The castles of Belcastel and Le Bastit are built into the rock itself, on a promontory, overlooking the valley like ships' figureheads. The towers and walls hug the summit of the rock as though they had grown out of it, whilst in more romantic mood, the Château de la Treyne prefers to contemplate its reflection in the waters of the river.
